A True Patriot

United Colors of Patriotism

India’s National Flag, the Tiranga, symbolises freedom. It reminds Indians of the many sacrifices made by the country’s founding fathers and mothers. It also reminds its people that freedom is invaluable; it is everyone’s birth right.

The Flag represents the people of India across its multiple diversities. It reflects the country’s uniqueness and beauty.

However post-Independence, when the Constituent Assembly adopted the Tricolour, unfortunately, it was kept away from the very same people it was meant to represent – the common people of the country. This is why Naveen Jindal decided to intervene and fought a decade-long battle to win the rights to display the Indian National Flag with pride.

Flag Foundation of India

On 23rd January 2004, the Supreme Court of India ruled in favour of Mr Naveen Jindal and cited a new fundamental right that would allow every Indian to hoist the national flag on all days of the year. After this landmark ruling, Naveen and his wife Ms Shallu Jindal established the Flag Foundation of India.

One of the primary objectives of the Foundation is to instil in the citizens of India, a sense of pride in the Tiranga. In order to spread the symbolism of the Tiranga, the Flag Foundation uses all available mediums such as music, art, photography, cultural programmes, festivals, seminars and workshops. This also includes collaborations with other civil societies and advocacy groups, corporate houses, educationists and other like-minded individuals, with a special focus on children and youth.

Highlights

  • In December 2009, Naveen Jindal was granted permission to hoist Monumental National Flag for 24 hours of the day.
  • He also installed more than 80 National Flags across major cities in the country, including army establishments, factories and universities.

"When we display the national flag, the most solemn symbol of our country, we rise above our political and religious affiliations and just show that we are proud Indians."
